Highway closed, ropeway to move Kinnaur apples
Shimla: Amid the work to restore the road connectivity between Shimla and Kinnaur, trial of span (ropeway) for transportation of apple and peas crops was successfully carried out at Nigulsari on Monday.The ropeway will assist farmers in transporting cash crops free of cost, as an alternative till the blocked road Shimla-Kinnaur road near Nigulsari is not reopened. Since Thursday, 73 panchayats of Kinnaur district remain cut off from the rest of the state. Revenue and horticulture minister Jagat Singh Negi again visited Nigulsari on Monday and took stock of the situation. He asked the officials concerned to install the high-tech ROC machine from Taranda Dhank side also. This machine has been requisitioned from the Army to ensure early opening of roads.The minister also presided over a review meeting for the restoration work of the national highway. He said till the restoration of the national highway, a ropeway had been established at Nigulsari to transport apples and pea crops to the market. All types of crops of the farmers and fruit growers of the district will be transported free of cost, he saidNegi also directed the officials to arrange for transportation of all the items of daily use like vegetables, milk, and other essential items to the people of Kinnaur district so that they did not have to face problems.The minister said the restoration work of the national highway was being carried out on war footing and he himself had visited the spot and inspected the works.He said the season of apple and peas crops was going on and in such a situation it was important to restore the road soon. Negi directed the officials from the NHAI and the public works department to speed up the restoration work so that the cash crops of the farmers could be transported to the market and the district could be connected to the mainstream.
