RANCHI:The zoo authorities of the Birsa Zoological Park in Ranchi is all set to build a sky bridge between its tiger and leopard enclosures over the pedestrian walk-in between, offering visitors a unique opportunity to see the royal beasts from a close distance. “It would be one of a kind in the country and give visitors a feeling next to none,” claimed A K Patra, the director of Birsa Zoo. Patra claimed that the idea struck officials while mulling new ways to surprise animal lovers and help the park maintain a good footfall during off seasons. The 20 ft high bridge will be close to 60 ft in length and 5 ft in width. Though transparent, the durable fiber-glass sheet, will allow a 360 degree view of the animals. An iron panel would be built within to separate the cats from coming close to each other. This grand proposal, which would incur a cost close to Rs 25-30 lakh, is pending with the state forest officials for approval. Zoo authority is extremely confident of getting a nod, due in a fortnight. However, the success of this visual delight will depend on the mood of the beasts, admitted the park management. “Leopards are avid climbers and will love to scale the bridge.
However, tigers can pose hindrances, typically because of their lazy nature. We will have to see,” said an official on Saturday. “The bridge will be constructed with a gradual incline that will help tigers to climb easily,” he added.Though transparent, the durable fiber-glass sheet, will allow a 360 degree view of the animals.
