Safety oversight claimed lives: Fatal accident at hotel exposes safety negligence; Family demands justice and compensation for the victim

Ranchi: A worker identified as Mantu Kumar (25) died on Monday after falling from the fourth floor during repair work at a hotel located under Hindpiri police station limits in Ranchi. Police said that the rod used by Kumar for support while working broke leading to his accidental fall. He received severe head injuries leading to his death on the spot, the police added.Kumar is a native of Aurangabad district in Bihar. He was living at Madhukum and worked as labourer for livelihood.Angered by the incident, the victim’s relatives and the locals accused the contractor of not providing adequate safety measures during work. They said that the affected family should be provided adequate compensation.In-charge of Hindpiri police station, Sunil Kumar Singh, intervened and arranged a talk between the family members, contractors and the hotel management. He said, “The contactor has assured to pay compensation. We would also try to ensure benefits of govt welfare scheme to the family. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem.”
