OBC Scholarship Delay in Jharkhand: Students Appeal for Urgent Release of Overdue Funds

Ranchi: The OBC Chatra Adhikar Sangharsh Samiti on Friday appealed to the state govt to immediately release the overdue scholarships for OBC students, which have been pending for two years, to help them continue their education.

The members of the organisation said that following the delay in scholarship distribution, the students are facing a huge financial crisis and having problems in paying their course fees, purchasing textbooks and undertaking other educational activities.

“In the last two financial years, 2023-24 and 2024-25, around 3 lakh OBC students have not received their scholarships. The govt is pulling back the OBC students who are already economically and socially deprived,” Sanjay Sahu, a member of the organisation, said while addressing the media here on Friday.

He added that due to the non-payment of scholarships, many students from Ranchi have gone back to their native places. “While many have taken up odd jobs in the city. We appeal to the govt to release the scholarships at the earliest so that the students can continue with their studies,” Sahu said. Satish Keshri, another member of the organisation, said that while the students continue to suffer, the Centre and the state govt are busy sending the ball into each other’s court.

Repeated calls to welfare minister Chamra Linda and secretary Kripanand Jha to enquire about the reasons behind the delay in scholarship payments remained unanswered.
