RANCHI: In an attempt to boost digital mode of financial transactions, Jharkhand Bidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) decided at its board meeting on Wednesday that all customers who opt to pay for their electricity bills through cashless transactions will be rewarded with cash back incentive.
The meeting was chaired by additional chief secretary cum development commissioner Amit Khare.

Khare said recently, the state government has adopted various modern methods of digital payment to keep up with the cashless drive. Net banking, debit card, online payment, net banking, mobile banking and Aadhaar enabled payment system (AEPS) and pay apps are an example of this.
“If electricity consumers pay through digital transactions instead of paying in cash, they would be entitled to cash back worth 1% of the total bill amount or Rs 50, whichever is lesser,” he said. But the decision is still waiting for the approval of Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC).
The facility for cash back would be available to domestic, commercial, low-tension industrial connections and farmers opting for digital payment.
Khare said, “Cash back facility would be adjusted against the bill for the next month and a consumer will get the benefit while paying the next bill, within 45 days. According to calculations, the benefit of cash back can be availed by more than 25 lakh LT consumers and it will aid the electricity department to improve its collection.”
