In a first, RMC collects Rs 108 crore in taxes

Ranchi: In a first, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has collected Rs 108 crore in taxes in the ongoing financial year. Of the total, property tax collection accounts for Rs 100 crore, emerging as the biggest contributor to the overall revenue.

Officials said the achievement marked a major shift, as property tax driving the bulk of collections has not been the trend in previous years.

RMC deputy municipal commissioner Gautam Prasad Sahu said, “We have crossed Rs 100 crore in property tax collection itself, while the overall collection stands at around Rs 108 crore. We are also expecting over a crore collection on last day.”

Apart from property tax, additional revenue has come from water user charges and trade licences. Officials attributed the surge to intensified collection drives and improved digital payment systems, making it easier for residents to pay dues.

The revenue collected will be used to strengthen civic infrastructure, including roads, drainage, street lighting and sanitation, with priority given to areas contributing higher taxes.

Awadh Kumar, an electronics trader in Lalpur, said timely reminders and easier payment options have encouraged compliance. “The online system has made tax payment much more convenient. Earlier, people delayed due to long queues, but now many are clearing dues on time,” he said.
