Drinking water supply to resume in Madhuban after 38-day wait

Bokaro: The prolonged water scarcity, being faced by over 3,000 households under the Madhuban drinking water supply scheme in Giridih district, is set to end from Saturday as water supply is set to resume after extensive repairing and technical restoration.

The families covered under the project fell into hard times since April 23 as water supply was completely shut down after several motors and several key technical components developed faults.

Madhuban, located in Pirtaand block of Giridih district, is located at the foothills of Parasnath Hills, the most sacred pilgrimage site in Jainism.

As shut down of the project triggered water crisis during the peak of summer, families turned towards wells, ponds and waterbodies in the vicinity to meet their daily water needs. Launched in 2015, the project supplies water from Barakar river, a tributary of the Damodar, and is operated by the village water and sanitation committee.

State urban development minister Sudviya Kumar and Giridih deputy commissioner Ramniwas Yadav monitored the restoration and repair work. “Technical teams worked intensively over the past several weeks to revive the stalled project. The disruption was caused due to the failure of the agency to properly follow technical maintenance standards,” Avik Ambala, executive engineer of the drinking water and sanitation division number 2, said.

Repair work and technical corrections began on April 24, with damaged machinery, pipelines and related equipment inspected and restored, the DC said. “All technical work has been completed successfully, and the system is fully ready for operation,” Ambala said.
