Chatra: A 50-year-old principal of a residential school in Chatra district was arrested on Thursday after a 13-year-old student, who was found pregnant, accused him of sexually exploiting her.The matter came to light when the student went back home from the hostel and her family noticed unusual physical changes in her. A test was carried out at home, and the pregnancy was confirmed.The family immediately informed the school authorities and later staged a protest on the school premises on Thursday night, alleging gross negligence and demanding strict action. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.Following this, the student and her family were taken to the police station, where statements were recorded and further investigation initiated. Based on the complaint of the minor and her family, the school principal was arrested on Thursday night and sent to judicial custody. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act, SC/ST Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, officials said.The girl’s medical examination was conducted at a hospital and her statement was recorded in presence of administrative officials, including child welfare committee members.
Chatra deputy commissioner Keerti Shree has constituted a five-member committee to investigate the incident. Officials also said that a DNA test will be conducted as per court orders to establish facts in the case.Meanwhile, school authorities have claimed that the student was irregular in attendance, though investigators are verifying all aspects of the case.Officer-in-charge of the local police station said a thorough investigation is on.
