Bokaro: Increasing incidents of blockades following road accidents, local disputes and other issues have prompted the Bokaro administration to order strict action against unauthorised disruptions that often paralyse traffic and life.Officials said that at least half a dozen major congestions were reported since May in areas such as Kasmar, Bermo and Chandankyari. Protesters, often seeking compensation or pressing for local demands, blocked key roads — including national highways and state roads — as a quick way to draw attention. With circle officers and police teams routinely visiting such spots, agitators are able to mount pressure to have their demands addressed, sources said. The growing frequency of such protests has caused severe inconvenience to commuters and worsened traffic congestion across the district. Taking note, the administration has directed sub-divisional officers, SDPOs, BDOs, circle officers, traffic police and officers in-charge of police stations to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards blockades and ensure smooth vehicular movement.Deputy commissioner Ajay Nath Jha said, “Protests and demonstrations carried out without permission will invite stringent action. The safety and convenience of residents, as well as travellers passing through Bokaro, remains a priority. Any attempt to disrupt public movement or damage public property will be dealt with firmly under applicable laws.”SP Nathu Singh Meena, on the other hand, urged residents to use designated block- or district-level grievance redressal committees instead of resorting to disruptive protests.Officers also highlighted that such disruptions affect not only residents but also industrial operations. To strengthen response, authorities have ordered videography, photography and drone surveillance of such incidents. The administration also expressed concern over the spread of misleading information on social media and directed action under the IT Act against those circulating rumours.
