The deprived lot of Amrapara

Amrapara: At a time when freebies offered by political parties are galore, there are still deprived persons.
One such person is Dhanmuni Soren, 45, a native of Kathaldih village in the Amrapara block of Pakur district. She has four daughters, all unmarried. Her husband died in 2014. Dhanmuni rued that she could not avail of any govt welfare scheme and has no ration card. Her 70 bigha land was "acquired" by a coal company but no compensation was paid till date. Now, she is finding it hard to make ends meet.
Maku Hembrom, 50, also belongs to the deprived lot. She has three daughters, one is unmarried. Her husband died in 2014. Her 20-acre land was also "acquired" by a coal company but she gets no compensation. She also claimed no govt scheme benefit has reached her yet.
Jyoti Murmu (40) of Pachuara Kol Tola also "lost" 90 bigha of land to a coal company but no compensation was paid to her by the company concerned. Govt scheme benefits have also eluded her. Some locals put the blame on both the govt and the coal companies for depriving these villagers of benefits and compensation.
Lalan Jha, a native of the locality, said, "The coal companies, not the govt, are supposed to provide them benefits. But the fact is — neither the coal companies nor the govt is providing them benefits and they are forced to live in penury.
