RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh health minister T S Singhdeo said that he would decide about his 'own future' before the assembly elections scheduled to be held by the end of 2023.
“At present, I have not given a thought to it," said senior Congress leader in north Chhattisgarh.
Singhdeo’s remarks assume significance as he was a strong contender for the post of chief ministership after the Congress government completed two and a half years in power on the ground that there was a purported formula for a '2.5 years rotational chief ministership' after the Congress came to power with a massive majority in the 2018 assembly elections.
Chhattisgarh Congress had witnessed a power struggle in August 2021 with health minister Singhdeo camping in Delhi reportedly pressing for a leadership change and legislators, supporting chief minister
Bhupesh Baghel, also rushed to Delhi in support of their leader. However, the power struggle in Congress later subsided.
Former BJP minister Rajesh Munat tweeted a video of health minister Singhdeo’s statement about taking a decision before the elections saying that the minister’s pain was reflected in his words.
