RAIPUR: The ‘Surya Kiran’ Torch Relay got a grand welcome on its arrival in Chhattisgarh capital with state governor Sekhar Dutt receiving it at the Shaheed Smarak Bhawan.
The torch, with its flame symbolizing valour, hope, unity and passion, reached the Azad Square at 11am with Army pipers playing the patriotic tune. District collector, Raipur, Siddharth Komal Singh Pardesi received the torch in the presence of Brigadier Balraj Mehta, Sena Medal, commander headquarters Chhattisgarh and Odisha sub Area (COSA) and a large number of Army personnel, NCC cadets, veterans and general public.The torch was then relayed by three veterans, three Army personnel and three NCC cadets in sequence and slowly marched towards Shaheed Smarak Bhawan.
Governor Sekhar Dutt spoke about the indomitable spirit shown by soldiers in all wars since independence and reiterated that the state would provide all help to the next of kin of those who lost their near and dear ones in the service to the nation.
