Raipur turns high-security zone as PM, HM and top brass set to arrive for DGP–IGP conference
Raipur: An advance team of the Special Protection Group (SPG) reached Raipur on Tuesday to take charge of security arrangements for the 60th All India DGP–IGP Conference, to be held at the IIM Naya Raipur campus from Nov 28 to 30. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and NSA Ajit Doval will attend the meet, turning Naya Raipur into a heavily fortified zone. The SPG is inspecting the airport, IIM venue, route plans and VIP residences, while inner security rings around key buildings have already been sealed. Outer layers will be managed by central forces, state police and intelligence agencies. Officers said the conference will focus on policing modernisation, national security challenges, counter-terror strategies, radicalisation, LWE, and security relations with China and Pakistan. Only the PM, Union HM and CM will move inside the innermost restricted zone; buses have been arranged for other officers. Around 400 vehicles have been reserved for the event. Sections of the Speaker House (M1 and M11) will function as a temporary PMO, where Modi and Shah will stay. Media access around Speaker House and IIM has been barred. PM Modi will arrive on Nov 28 evening and attend sessions on the 29th, while Shah will be present throughout.
Nearly 550 senior officers from across the country will participate, arriving on Nov 26 and 27. Five companies of state police and central forces have been deployed. ADG Dipanshu Kabra is heading PM security coordination, with state intelligence chief Amit Kumar overseeing overall planning. This is the first time Chhattisgarh is hosting the national DGP–IGP conference, marking the state's growing significance in internal security.
