New Vidhan Sabha: Heart of CG’s democratic legacy
Raipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that a Legislative Assembly is not just a place for enacting laws, but a vibrant institution that shapes the destiny of a state. Describing the new Vidhan Sabha building, PM referred to it as a "pilgrimage site of democracy" and a milestone in the state's 25-year journey from aspiration to achievement. He highlighted Chhattisgarh's transformation from a Naxal-affected region to a model of development and urged legislators to make the new Assembly a centre of people-centric governance that empowers farmers, youth, women, and the marginalised—shaping a "Viksit Bharat" by 2047.Modi stressed that every thought and decision developing from the House should reflect the spirit of public service, a firm resolve for development, and the confidence to take India to greater heights. Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the new Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly building in Nava Raipur, Atal Nagar, the Prime Minister described the Assembly as a living institution where every idea should advance public welfare, drive the state's progress, and strengthen India's growth on the global stage. Paying tribute to national and regional icons, including Bharat Ratna former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, PM Modi said the modern, culturally inspired complex symbolises transparency, accountability, and progress. The first Assembly meeting in 2000 took place in a modest setting at Rajkumar College in Raipur, but today the state witnesses the inauguration of a digitally advanced, self-reliant legislative building. This building is described as a pilgrimage site of democracy, where every pillar stands for transparency, corridors remind of accountability,.
