Cong sends 15 lakh forms to Delhi to press ‘vote chori’ allegations

Raipur: Intensifying its campaign against the BJP government, Congress on Sunday dispatched 15.5 lakh signature forms to the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Delhi, as part of party's nationwide campaign "vote chor gaddi chhor". The symbolic consignment was flagged off from Rajiv Bhavan, the state Congress headquarters in Raipur, by Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee president Deepak Baij, leader of opposition Charandas Mahant, and several senior party leaders.

The forms, collected from across the state as part of a public signature drive, were loaded onto a vehicle that departed amid slogans and cheers from Congress workers. The campaign, according to party leaders, reflects the people's anger over what they describe as a "betrayal of the popular mandate" and aims to highlight alleged irregularities in the BJP's rise to power in the state. These signatures, gathered to protest alleged voter manipulation by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will be dispatched to New Delhi on Monday. The party had instructed its district functionaries and workers to scrutinise the voter list irregularities during the drive. Signatures were collected from all 90 Assembly constituencies in the state.The Chhattisgarh Congress conducted the voter list verification based on five key points including duplicate voters, bogus and invalid addresses, bulk enrolment of voters at a single address, and invalid photographs.


The party stated that it strongly pursued the issue of fraudulent votes, which is being raised at the national level, within the state. Dhananjay Thakur stated that the public had shown overwhelming support for the campaign. He stated that once the documents reach Delhi, the signature forms will be handed over to the Congress national leadership.
