Chhattisgarh HC witnesses historic decrease in pending cases due to speedy disposal
RAIPUR: For the first time, the total pending cases in the Chhattisgarh High Court are decreasing due to the expeditious disposal of cases. The High Court states that this new characteristic of swift case resolution is ultimately benefiting the litigants and the public at large in the state of Chhattisgarh. Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha, in his brief tenure of just over seven months, has made sincere efforts that have significantly accelerated the disposal of cases.
According to data from the High Court, the case pendency was 84,651 as of March 29, 2022. From March 29, 2022, to December 1, 2022, 28,526 cases were filed. However, only 23,126 cases were disposed of during this period, resulting in pending cases totaling 90,051. Consequently, there was a 6.38% increase in pending cases in the High Court as of December 1, 2022.
In comparison, the case pendency in the High Court as of March 29, 2023, was recorded at 92,316, with 28,583 cases filed from March 29, 2023, to December 1, 2023. During this period, 29,940 cases were disposed of, leading to a decreased pendency of 90,959 cases, marking a reduction of 1.47%.
The Chief Justice has disposed of 2,117 cases in the Single Bench and 4,381 cases in the Division Bench. Out of the total disposal of 29,940 cases, the Chief Justice accounted for the disposal of 6,498 cases, constituting 22% of the total cases disposed of.
The significant increase in the disposal percentage (29.46%) of the Chhattisgarh High Court is a remarkable milestone.
