Chhattisgarh: CRPF jawan injured by Naxalite IED blast in Sukma
CHHATTISGARH: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was injured when a pressure Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxalites exploded in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Sunday at 1:45pm.
The incident occurred during an area domination operation in the forested hills near Gogunda under Fulbagdi police station area.
The injured jawan from CRPF's 74th battalion accidentally triggered the pressure IED, resulting in leg injuries. He received preliminary treatment and was being airlifted to Raipur for further medical care.
The Maoists frequently plant IEDs along roads and dirt tracks in forests of the Bastar region, which includes seven districts including Sukma. These devices are used to target security personnel during patrolling operations in interior areas. Civilians have also fallen victim to these traps in the past.
In a previous incident on June 9 this year, Additional Superintendent of Police (Konta division) Akash Rao Girepunje was killed, and two officers were injured when an IED planted by Naxalites exploded at a stone quarry in Sukma district.
The forest areas of Sukma continue to witness such incidents, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region.
