CG’s strong run earns bronze at National Handball C’ship

Raipur: Chhattisgarh men's team secured a bronze medal at 54th Senior Men's National Handball Championship, which was organised by the West Bengal State Handball Association under Handball Association India. Six-day tournament featured top teams from across the country.Chhattisgarh displayed a dominant performance throughout the league stage. Placed in a pool with Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand, the team won all three matches to progress to the knockout rounds.They defeated Himachal Pradesh 50-34 in their opening encounter, followed by a 27-12 victory over Odisha. In the final league match, they beat Jharkhand 35-32. The momentum continued in the pre-quarterfinals, where Chhattisgarh overcame Telangana with a 27-12 scoreline. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Karnataka 43-29 to book a spot in the semifinals. The semi-final saw a closely contested match between Chhattisgarh and hosts West Bengal. The game went into extra time, where Chhattisgarh narrowly lost 36-37. Following the defeat, Chhattisgarh was awarded the bronze medal jointly with Rajasthan. 21-member Chhattisgarh squad included players from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Bhilai and various districts. The team members include Pardeep, Mandeep, S Britain Singh, Mohd Amir Hussain, Mohd Nihal, Basa Mahesh, Mithun Kumar, Sandeep, K Kartik Kumar, M Gautam, Narayan Sahu, Aman Rajbhar, Lukesh Patel, Aditya Chandrakar, Sumit Singh Ramgarhia, Mohammad Gani, Sumit Kumar Yadav, and Tausif Imtiaz.
