team, Chhattisgarh high court judges remarked "state Ranji team has made history" in an oblique reference to the performance of the team when seven Chhattisgarh batsmen scored ducks in their match against Goa recently. The petition is being heard by a bench comprising Justice

Pritinkar Diwakar

and Justice Rajendra Chandra Singh Samant.

The matter would come for hearing again on Wednesday. Chhattisgarh Ranji team played its match against Goa in Cuttack.

Goa took a lead of 72 runs in the first innings. In their second innings CG team scored 95 runs for loss of two wickets on November 7. That day Amandeep and Abhishek of Chhattisgarh team got out without scoring. The next day, which was the last day of the match CG team was 148 for the loss of three wickets at one point. However, after that the team lost seven wickets for just 14 runs. As many as seven batsmen of CG team returned to pavilion without bothering the scorers in the match.

Chhattisgarh state cricket association has been recognized by BCCI this year and it became eligible to play Ranji trophy. CG state cricket association appointed former India cap Mohammad Kaif as captain of the state Ranji team. The association also selected 37-year-old P Vivek Naidu as wicket-keeper batsman of the team. After team selection former cricketer R Vijay Naidu filed a PIL before the high court alleging that cricketers who had mediocre performances at district level and at selection trials were included in the state team. Petitioner further alleged some players who did not even participate in the selection camp were selected to the team. During hearing of the petition, the court had sought response from CG state cricket association and others.

During hearing of the PIL on Friday state cricket association informed the court that it is ready to include five more players for the camp once the coach is free. The petitioner objected to contention of the association, after which the bench asked the association to send the said five players to Kanpur to practice with rest of selected team. Five cricketers have earlier been members of MP Ranji team. They include Sunney Bhatia, Prakhar Rai, Javed Akhtar, Ashutosh Jadhav and Krandeep.
