Youth kills friend over Rs 5,000 demand

PUNE: A 20-year-old man allegedly hacked his friend to death early on Sunday at Bhagyodayanagar in Kondhwa after he demanded Rs 5,000 from him. The suspect assaulted the deceased man with a sharp weapon which killed him.

Five friends had gathered at Bhagyodayanagar and were chatting around 1.30am on Sunday. During the conservation, Sayyed demanded his money from Shaikh and abused him.

“Shaikh grew angry and charged at Sayyed. The three other friends attempted to intervene but Shaikh brought out a sharp weapon and assaulted Sayyed on his head and neck,” assistant inspector P A Pawar of Kondhwa police station told TOI.

The three friends then rushed Sayyed to Sassoon General Hospital where he was declared dead. One of the three friends, Faiyaz Shaikh (24) of Ramtekdi in Hadapsar lodged a complaint with the police.

According to the complaint, Shaikh had borrowed Rs 5,000 from Sayyed a few months ago. When Sayyed demanded his money back on Sunday, Shaikh assaulted him in a fit of rage.
