PUNE: A-54-year-old city mountaineer died of pulmonary edema at a height of about 7,000 feet while climbing Mount Nun mountain near Kargil in the Himalayan ranges in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

Confirming this with TOI over the phone from Srinagar on Monday, J&K tourism director Mahmood Ahmad Shah said, "On Sunday, we received a message from the

Kargil district

authorities that two mountaineers were stranded at a height of 7,000 feet on Mount Nun mountain. Accordingly, we alerted all concerned agencies, including the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF)."

In the early hours of Monday, an

IAF helicopter

airlifted the body of the mountaineer, Subhash Takle, to a hospital in Kargil district.
