PATNA: Independent MLC candidate Rais Khan of infamous Khan brothers’ gang had a narrow escape when his convoy was attacked by criminals on a road near Mahuval village in Siwan district late on Monday night. A villager was shot dead and two others were injured in the attack.
The incident occurred around 11.15pm on the day voting for 24 council seats took place in the state.

Rais was on way to his home in Siwan along with his supporters. When their convoy reached near Mahual village, five to six assailants opened indiscriminate firing using AK-47 rifles.
Siwan SP Shailesh Kumar Sinha, who visited the spot along with SHO of Hussainganj police station Rambalak Yada, said at least 20 empty cartridges were recovered. “It is being probed whether the assailants used AK-47 rifles or not. One Vinod Yadav of Siswan village died in the attack. He was returning home after attending a function when the bullets hit him,” he added.
The SP said two people – Bablu Khan and Bhulan Mian – sustained bullet injuries and they were undergoing treatment at sadar hospital in Siwan. “According to Rais, a group if 5-6 criminals attacked his convoy near Mahuval village.
Road blocked over murder of MLC candidate
He claimed that around 50 rounds of firing took place," he said.
It is learned that the assailants targeted a black SUV generally used by Rais. He was, however, in another vehicle on Monday night and the attackers were unaware of it.
The SHO said the police have started interrogating the locals and collecting evidences from the site. Villagers blocked road near Maharana Chowk on Tuesday to protest the incident.
Rais, popularly known as Chote Khan, said, "My vehicle survived the attack as it was running at a high speed. Other vehicles were hit. My neighbour Vinod died in the attack. Several of my supporters were injured."
Rais' brother Ayub Khan was arrested by the police in January from Dalkhola check post in Purnia district in connection with mysterious disappearance of three Siwan youths in November last year.
