CHHAPRA: A leopard injured three persons at Anandpur village under Sonepur police station area in
Saran district on Sunday. Later, it hid itself in a nearby bush. After waiting for sometime for leopard to come out, the agitated villagers set the bush on fire.
When the frightened leopard came out of the bushes, they attacked it with sticks and spears causing deep injuries to the animal.
Later, Sonepur SDO A M Singh and DSP P K Das rushed to the spot with forest officials and saved the leopard.
"It was a beautiful cat and I had to strive hard to save this animal from the crowd," said Das and added that the forest officials have taken the animal to Patna zoo for treatement. Saran DFO L P Singh, however, said the leopard died before reaching Patna Zoo.
Das, meanwhile, denied that any FIR had been lodged against the crowd and said it was a desperate act to save the lives of the people.
The locals say the leopard had reached the village from Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve in West Champaran district.
Meanwhile, those attacked and injured by the leopard have been identified as Ashok Paswan of Manpur village and Rajendra Prasad Yadav and Rajkumar Rai of Anandpur village.
