MADHEPURA: Six motorcycle-borne criminals barged into a jewellery shop in the main market of at

and fired at its owner’s son before decamping with gold and ornaments worth several lakhs on Monday.


The criminals had come on three bikes. They held shopowner Rajkumar Soni, his son Abhishek and the customers hostages at gunpoint around 11am. They pumped two bullets into the abdomen of Abhishek when he tried to resist the dacoity bid. They also beat up one of the customers, Santosh Kumar from Murliganj, to terrorize everyone inside the shop.

The criminals escaped on the same motorcycles. Abhishek was admitted to a local hospital from where the doctors referred him to a private hospital

Police sources said the exact value of the looted gold and ornaments was yet to be ascertained.

Madhepura SP Sanjay Kumar said raids were on to nab the criminals. The news of broad daylight dacoity spread in the town like wild fire and businessmen downed their shutters for the day. They demanded immediate arrest of the criminals and protection of traders.
