Couple arrested for strangling elderly mother in Siwan village
Patna: A man and his wife were arrested on Sunday for allegedly strangling his mother to death in Hasanpurwa village under Andar police station area of Siwan district. Angry villagers caught the couple and thrashed them before police arrived.
The mob also clashed with cops and damaged a police vehicle. Additional police force later reached the spot and took both the accused into custody.
The deceased was identified as Panpati Devi (58), wife of Kanhaiya Yadav, while the accused are her son Bablu Yadav and daughter-in-law Rinku Devi.
Sadar-II SDPO Gauri Kumari said, “Police acted swiftly and arrested both the accused. An FIR was registered on the statement of the deceased’s husband. The body was sent to sadar hospital for the postmortem.”
Husband of the deceased told the police that his wife and daughter-in-law Rinku had a dispute about a month ago. After that, his son Bablu, who was worked abroad, allegedly threatened to kill his mother over the phone.
Kanhaiya said Bablu returned to the village about a week ago. He alleged that Bablu and Rinku together strangled Panpati with a sari.
Kanhaiya claimed he filed an application at the police station on May 11, apprehending threat to his wife and sought security, but no concrete action was taken.
According to Siwan police, information was received on Sunday morning about the death of an elderly woman, Panpati Devi, by suicide.
Villagers alleged that she was murdered by her son and daughter-in-law. When police reached the spot and detained Bablu and Rinku for questioning, some anti-social elements allegedly created a ruckus in an attempt to free them.
The mob attacked the police personnel and a police vehicle, injuring several cops and damaging the vehicle. Additional police force later reached the spot and took both accused into custody.
“The SP, Puran Kumar Jha, inspected the spot. An FSL team collected evidence. Further legal action is underway, and the situation in the area is now normal and under control,” Sadar-II SDPO said.
