NAVI MUMBAI: After a year of investigation in the
Bank of Baroda heist in Juinagar, the 12th wanted robber was arrested three days ago by the Waliv police team in
Vasai
jurisdiction. The gang of burglars had dug a 40-foot long underground tunnel to reach the bank's locker room. Senior inspector Suraj Padvi of
Sanpada
police station said, "The 12th accused has been identified as Sanjay Kamari (30). He was part of the core gang that executed the Rs 3.43 crore heist at Bank of Baroda, Juinagar branch."
Waliv police station's senior inspector Prakash Birajdar said,"We had arrested Kamari in two house break theft cases worth around Rs 5 lakh. He was nabbed from his residence in Fatherwadi in Vasai, three days ago. When we inquired about his criminal record with our counterparts, we leant that he was also wanted by Navi Mumbai police in the Juinagar's bank heist."
After three weeks of probe into the burglary at Bank of Baroda, Juinagar branch, the Navi Mumbai crime branch and Sanpada police teams had arrested 10 persons and recovered vauables and cash worth Rs 1.52 crore, apart from four cars, worth Rs 24 lakh used in the crime. Four more accused, all labourers recruited for tunnel digging were at large from whom 50% recovery of stolen booty was to be done.
