Nashik: A 54-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle plunged into an unbarricaded drainage pit in Satpur late on Saturday night, triggering sharp outrage among residents over alleged civic negligence.The deceased, Pravin Gaikwad, a resident of Jijamata Nagar in Shivajinagar, met with the accident around 11.30pm near Saat Mauli Chowk while returning home. According to the police, Gaikwad unknowingly rode into the exposed pit, causing his bike’s front wheel to get stuck and throwing him violently onto the road. The impact resulted in severe head and chest injuries.Residents rushed to help, and shifted him to a private hospital at Carbon Naka, from where he was referred to Nashik Civil Hospital as his condition worsened. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment.Senior inspector Prakash Ahire, of the Satpur police station, said a case of accidental death has been registered and further investigation is underway.The incident has sparked anger among local residents, who said the dangerous stretch had no warning signs or barricades. They blamed authorities for leaving the pit uncovered, calling it a “death trap” and demanding immediate accountability and safeguards at construction sites to prevent further loss of life.
