Nashik: Rohit Pawar, the
NCP MLA from
Sharad Pawar faction, said on Monday Sharad Pawar, is the “biggest asset” for the party.
“It is immaterial whether our faction gets the party name or symbol. As far as we are concerned, our party chief is our biggest asset,” he told reporters at Jalgaon.
He was responding to a query regarding the recent remarks by Praful Patel, the senior leader of the rival NCP faction, who claimed that the Election Commission of India will decide about the party name and symbol in favour of his faction by September 30.
Rohit reminded the rival NCP faction, headed by Ajit Pawar, that the people of the state love Sharad Pawar wholeheartedly.
Rohit is in Jalgaon to oversee the preparations for the public rally of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, slated to take place on Tuesday afternoon.
Rohit further said that when the NCP was formed in 1999, people rallied behind the party not because of the name or the symbol.
“People backed Sharad Pawar even at that time. And they will continue to do so now. Having Sharad Pawar on our side is our biggest advantage,” he said.
Earlier addressing party workers in Dhule on Monday, Rohit criticised the state government for the police lathi charge on people from the Maratha community in Jalna on Friday.
Stating that not a single BJP MP took up the issue on Maratha reservation during the recent parliamentary session, Rohit expressed the need for a decision on Maratha reservation during the forthcoming special session of Parliament.
