Residents want curbs on heavy vehicles on Jafar Nagar ring road

Nagpur: Following the death of a teenager two weeks ago and a spike in accidents on the ring road stretch from Gorewada Square to Mankapur, residents have sought curbs on the movement of heavy vehicles and a crackdown on haphazard parking of two wheelers among other demands.
In a joint press statement, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Maratha Seva Sangh (MSS), Medical Service Society Nagpur (MSSN) and Gorewada Jungle Trackers (GJT) want the city police and municipal commissioner to act against traffic offenders and ensure safety of road users.

Yahya Zafar, a resident of Jafar Nagar, was knocked dead by a speeding car on ring road on June 3, a day after his SSC result. Yahya was not wearing a helmet and rode the two-wheeler without a driving licence.
“Recently, accidents have increased on the ring road. The area is densely populated with schools, hospitals, and other public institutions. The constant movement of heavy vehicles has contributed to congestion on Gorewada Ring Road,” the release said.
The three organizations pointed out the menace of commercial outlets and eateries along Jafar Nagar Road which has led to increased traffic disruptions.
To address these issues, they suggested restriction or complete ban on heavy vehicles near residential areas.
