NMC trumps NMRCL to get North Ambazari Road land

Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (

NMC

) has won the race for a piece of land on North

Ambazari

Road, leaving behind Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (

NMRCL

) and minorities development department. The Nagpur Improvement Trust (

NIT

) has allotted the land to the civic body for construction of administrative building of Nagpur Environmental Services Limited (

NESL

).
Currently, the NESL, a special purpose vehicle of the NMC for operation and maintenance of water works, is running from a old building situated behind Dik Dispensary in Dharampeth. Now, the NMC will construct NESL office at the new location situated on

North Ambazari Road

adjacent to Central Board of Workers’ Education, near Ambazari crematorium.
NIT board of trustees passed resolution to allot land measuring 1,238.12 sq.mt to the NMC at nominal rate of Rs 1/sqmt and 2% of ground rent.
The NMRCL had sought the same piece of land from the NIT for construction of a guest house and staff quarters. The proposal is not part of the metro rail project. Earlier, the NIT had leased out the land to the minorities development department for the construction of a hostel for higher education students hailing from minorities. The lease has been cancelled due to non-compliance of the process from the minorities development department.
Actually, the NIT has decided to allot the land to the NMC as a quid pro quo: The NIT had taken possession of the civic body’s land at Ram Nagar.
The NIT had leased out land measuring 1,892.87 sqmt adjacent to Ram Nagar overhead water tank to the NMC on November 12, 2012. Later, the NIT decided to develop a park for senior citizens at the place. The NIT took a no-objection certificate from the NMC and started works.
Mayor

Pravin Datke

, on January 18, sent a letter to the NIT demanding the land back for the NESL office. However, NIT informed the mayor that work on construction of the park had already started and funds of Rs 30 lakh had been spent.
Datke then demanded land of 3,000 sqmt for NESL office in other locations. Then, the NIT proposed to allot land of 1,238.12 sqmt situated on

North Ambazari

road sidelining the NMRCL and minorities development department.
Now, NIT will sent a letter to NMC, informing about the resolution. The NMC is likely to approve it as board meeting attended by municipal commissioner

Shravan Hardikar

and standing committee chairman

Sudhir Raut

.
However, the NMC will get 654.75 sq.mt land short at North Ambazari road. Datke told TOI that NMC will ask the NIT to hand over land equivalent to the one in Ram Nagar.
