NAGPUR: Vidarbha has been a region where colleges have mushroomed at an amazing speed. But the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) is now cracking the whip against those flouting norms pertaining to land requirements.
NCTE is the approving authority for all colleges where future teachers are educated. In the last financial year, 48 colleges in Vidarbha alone received the flak from NCTE for not following the lane use and ownership norms.
Some of these colleges have been issued show cause notices for violations while some others' recognition has been withdrawn.
Among the 48, only one college was offering the pre-primary teachers course (PPTC) while others were providing the bachelor or master in education (BEd, MEd). According to NCTE, the violations by these colleges included land ownership and registration issues. Some colleges had a building ready with completion certificates. Some did not have certificate of land usage (CLU) while others did not even have land in possession at the time of application.
