Road adoption initiative launched to make Mysuru cleaner
Mysuru: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Mysuru zone, in collaboration with Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), observed World Environment Day.
A key highlight of the celebrations was the launch of the ‘Adopt-a-Stretch’ road adoption Initiative, a collaborative effort between CII Mysuru and MCC aimed at strengthening cleanliness standards and positioning Mysuru among the cleanest cities in the country.
Under this initiative, industries will adopt road stretches surrounding their premises, while MCC will facilitate the upkeep of these stretches and strengthen enforcement against unauthorised waste dumping through technology-enabled monitoring mechanisms. The model is designed to promote shared responsibility, behavioural change and sustained civic engagement, the CII said.
The clean-up drive saw participation of over 2,000 volunteers, including representatives from industries, educational institutions, NGOs and govt departments. Spanning over 80% of the ring road stretch, several tons of plastic waste were collected, contributing to improved urban hygiene and reinforcing the importance of responsible waste management and citizen participation.
MCC commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif, CII Karnataka State Council vice-chairman Sam Cherian, CII Mysuru zone chairman Utsav Agarwal and vice-chairman Savitha Mallappa were present.
