Man awarded 30-year RI for raping minor

Mysuru: The fast track special court for cases related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act has convicted and sentenced a 31-year-old man from Dharwad for 30 years of rigorous imprisonment for abusing a 14-year-old girl, who is his stepdaughter.According to special public prosecutor KB Jayanthi, Pocso special court judge Shayma Khamroz sentenced the 31-year-old man from Dharwad to jail for raping the minor girl, and fined him Rs 1 lakh. He was also sentenced to six months in jail for threatening the girl.The man had married the girl’s mother and all three lived in one house. In 2022 he shifted to Mysuru from Dharwad along with his mother and the girl and stayed in KR police limits. In the absence of the mother, he abused the girl and threatened dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone. He had also abused the girl in Dharwad.The crime came to light after the girl went missing and then her mother lodged a police complaint. After the incident came to light, subsequently police booked a case and filed a chargesheet against him, Jayanthi stated.
