‘Include all eligible voters in list’

Mysuru: Additional chief election commissioner M Kurma Rao on Friday directed the officials of Mysuru district administration to include all eligible voters in the voters’ list without fail. He stressed on the inclusion of transgender persons, people with disabilities and senior citizens in the voters’ list. He was speaking at a meeting with booth-level officers convened to discuss the revision of voters’ list at the office of deputy commissioner in the city.He said that though the district administration has made all efforts to bring all eligible voters in the list by undertaking various activities under Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign activities, some of the eligible voters still remain out of the electoral rolls. “The officials should achieve 100% progress,” he stated.He asked the official machinery to hold additional awareness programmes to increase the voters’ enrolment by educating the people through street plays and other programmes. “They should advise the voters to make use of the voters’ helpline 1950,” he said. He also asked booth-level officers to take up the voters’ list revision drive during morning and evening hours by going door-to-door as per people’s availablability. Deputy commissioner KV Rajendra asked the officers to include all youths who have completed 18 years in the district voter’s list. “Names of those voters who have migrated out of the district should be deleted. Those who have died should also be deleted from the voter’s list,” he stated, asking the booth-level officers to verify the information by visiting households and collecting the details, including death certificates as well as signatures of family members of the deceased. He also directed the BLOs to concentrate more on Jenu Kuruba, Kadu Kuruba and other tribal settlements besides ensuring the distribution of voter identity cards. He said special drives should be held in educational institutions to enrol youths who are 18 years old. He also asked the officials to focus on polling booths that registered less voting percentage in the recently held assembly elections by revising the voters’ list.DC chairs meeting of political partiesDeputy commissioner KV Rajendra on Friday instructed the representatives of political parties to submit their objections concerning the price list of election materials.Presiding over a meeting with the representatives of the political parties and officials, he said that a price list had been handed over to various political parties following the instruction of the Election Commission ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. If the parties have any objections, they should be submitted to the office.
