The ₹2,727-crore project will be a six-lane (3+3) greenfield, access-controlled corridor along the Thane Creek coastline, designed to decongest traffic and ensure smoother, high-speed connectivity.

Relief for Ghodbunder Road traffic

The corridor is expected to ease pressure on the heavily congested Ghodbunder Road while improving connectivity between the Mumbai-Nashik Highway and Gaimukh, reducing daily commute stress.

Seamless Saket–Gaimukh connectivity

Integrated with the upcoming Gaimukh–Fountain Hotel Tunnel, the road will allow uninterrupted travel between Saket and Gaimukh, freeing existing highway capacity for city-bound traffic.

Boost to freight and port movement

The project will create a dedicated freight corridor towards JNPT, Wadhawan Port, South Maharashtra and Karnataka, improving logistics efficiency while cutting down congestion within urban limits.

Engineering first with monopile system

MMRDA said the project marks an engineering first in India, deploying a single-pile, single-pier monopile foundation system for a greenfield road to enhance structural strength and durability.

Elevated design to protect mangroves

Major stretches will be elevated to safeguard the sensitive mangrove ecosystem between Kolshet and Gaimukh along Thane Creek, while integrating with future projects like Thane Ring Metro and Coastal Road-2.
