MUMBAI: Two courts in Mumbai on Tuesday issued non-bailable warrants against underworld don Abu Salem for his alleged involvement in murder cases.
The warrants will be handed over to Interpol as Salem is facing the charge of illegal stay in a Lisbon court and has been arrested there. The Indian government has also sought his extradition as the gangster is allegedly involved in a number of criminal cases in the country.
Special judge Abhay Thipsay issued non-bailable warrants against Salem for his alleged role in the murder of Ajit Dewani, secretary of film star Manisha Koirala, Aftab Shivdasani and Lisa Ray.
Dewani was shot dead at his office in suburban Andheri last year. Six others are also facing trial in the case.
In another case, sessions judge S J Shah issued non-bailable warrants against Salem for allegeldy murdering two persons.
According to public prosecutor Rohini Salian, Mumbai police had sought non-bailable warrants against Salem to prove his involvement in criminal cases in the country.
