Rebuilt skywalk opens to public

The reconstructed skywalk connecting Bandra Railway Station (East) to Kalanagar Junction on the Western Express Highway has been opened for public use, offering a safer and smoother commute for thousands of daily pedestrians in the busy Bandra (East) stretch.

2/9

Direct link to station fob

The new structure provides seamless connectivity to the foot over bridge at Bandra Railway Station (East), allowing commuters to transition directly from train platforms to the elevated walkway without stepping into heavy road traffic.

3/9

680-metre elevated corridor

Stretching 680 metres in length with an average width of 5.40 metres, the skywalk offers ample walking space, reducing bottlenecks and enabling steady pedestrian movement during peak office and court hours.

4/9

Safer crossing over highway

The skywalk enables pedestrians to cross the Western Express Highway safely without navigating chaotic traffic, significantly lowering the risk of accidents in one of Mumbai’s busiest corridors.

5/9

Boost for BKC and court access

The elevated pathway eases access to key destinations including Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Bandra Court, MHADA offices and the District Collector’s office, cutting travel time for office-goers and visitors.

6/9

Four staircases for easy entry

Four strategically placed staircases allow pedestrians to enter and exit the skywalk from multiple points, ensuring convenient access from surrounding roads and commercial hubs.

7/9

Built amid traffic challenges

Construction was completed within the stipulated time despite heavy highway traffic, midnight work restrictions, pedestrian rush below and the need to relocate multiple utility lines during the project.

8/9

CCTV-enabled security

A total of 14 CCTV cameras have been installed along the skywalk to enhance surveillance, ensure commuter safety and monitor movement throughout the day and night.

9/9

Escalators add convenience

Two escalators have been installed to support senior citizens, children and daily commuters, making vertical movement easier and reducing physical strain during long walks.
