Amid concerns over rising COVID-19 cases, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written to the Maharashtra government warning about a second wave in the state and listed out several lapses in the state's management of the coronavirus pandemic. The letter said that the state must be ready for any worst-case scenarios and also advised that the authorities strengthen their surveillance by house to house search for active cases/contacts in containment zones. Second wave in Maharashtra

"Maharashtra is at the beginning of the second wave of COVlD-19 pandemic. There is very limited active effort to track, test, isolate cases and quarantine contacts. There is no adherence to COVID-appropriate behaviour among people both in rural and urban areas. The Central team inferred that the administrative mechanism should be reinstated to the level witnessed in August-September 2020 to contain/suppress the COVlD transmission," observed Health secretary Rajesh Bhushan. In the first phase, the e-carriages will run at the Gateway of India, Marine Drive and Nariman Point.
