Mumbai Metro Crosses 100km

The operational metro network in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has surpassed 100km, making it the country’s second-largest metro system after Delhi NCR.

Thane Gets First Metro Corridor

The 4.4km Metro Line 9 stretch (Dahisar–Kashigaon) marks the first metro corridor in Thane district, connecting Mira-Bhayander to the metro network.

Eastern Suburbs Enter Metro Map

The opening of Metro Line 2B (Mandale to Diamond Garden) introduces metro connectivity to Mumbai’s eastern suburbs for the first time.

Combined Metro Length Crosses 101km

Including the 10km Navi Mumbai Metro corridor, the total operational metro length in MMR has now exceeded 101km.

Comparison with Other Cities

Delhi-NCR has around 416km of metro network with 303 stations, while Kolkata’s metro network stands at 74km.

Metro Network Expansion Underway

Several metro projects in the region are already 80–96% complete, indicating rapid network growth over the next few years.

Once the full 337km metro network is operational, MMR is expected to have one of the world’s longest metro systems.

Metro 9 Project Phases

The Rs 6,500 crore Metro 9 project is being executed in two phases, with the second 4.3km stretch from Sai Baba Nagar to Subhash Chandra Bose Nagar planned for later this year.

Operational Changes on Western Corridor

Metro 7 now integrates with Line 9 for direct Gundavali–Dahisar–Kashigaon service, while Metro 2A becomes a standalone Andheri West–Dahisar East route. Transfers at Dahisar will remain within the paid concourse.

Future Line 2B Extensions

The next sections of Metro 2B include a 6km D N Nagar–Saraswati Colony stretch and an 11km Saraswati Colony–Chembur stretch, expected to be operational by 2027–28, further strengthening east Mumbai connectivity.
