In a letter to the management on May 21, Bombay Hospital Resident Doctors’ Association said while they were not averse to doing

Covid duty

, they were “flabbergasted’’ with such a token gesture.

“It is insensitive to provide us with an incentive of Rs 2,500. As duty in Covid wards is roughly for 10 days a month, the amount works out to roughly Rs 83 a day,’’ said a resident doctor.

The letter signed by BHRDA president Dr Mehul Desai, said, “We, however, cannot be greedy in such testing times and would like to request you to initiate the process of taking back this amount and channelize it for more charitable causes, which would truly make us happy.’’

Hospital medical superintendent Dr

S Patil

said there had been a misunderstanding and the issue would be sorted out on Friday.

This came as

BMC

decided to increase the stipend of resident doctors by Rs 10,000 for Covid duty.
