MUMBAI: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) told Bombay high court that all participants at a meeting it had called two weeks ago said

price capping

of

N95 masks

at this juncture would be premature and may prove to be a disincentive to domestic manufacturers. But the Authority said its May 21 advisory to sell at "reasonable prices" with caution that any violation would attract action under the Essential Commodities Act has led to a price reduction by 47%.

On May 28, NPPA wrote to FDA chief Arun Unhale and shared the "revised MRP" to ensure availability for all, at revised prices.

NPPA in its affidavit, in response to a PIL by Sucheta Dalal and Anjali Damania seeking measures to curb hoarding and exorbitant pricing of N95 masks, said with N95 notified as "drugs", its maximum retail price can't rise by over 10% of what it was in last 12 months.
