Bullet train project achieves another mountain tunnel breakthrough
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project completed excavation of the 417-metre-long MT-07 tunnel in Palghar district on Monday.
Third mountain tunnel breakthrough achieved in five months
The latest breakthrough is the third achieved in Maharashtra within the last five months for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project.
MT-07 tunnel completed at Ambesari village in Palghar
The MT-07 tunnel is located at Ambesari village in Dahanu taluka of Palghar district and measures 417 metres in length.
Tunnel designed for up and down bullet train tracks
Officials said the 14-metre-wide MT-07 tunnel is designed to carry both up and down Bullet Train tracks.
Controlled drilling and blasting used for tunnel excavation
The tunnel was excavated using controlled drilling and blasting from both ends along with continuous vibration and structural monitoring systems.
Eight mountain tunnels planned for bullet train project
The project includes eight mountain tunnels in total, seven in Maharashtra’s Palghar district and one in Gujarat’s Valsad district.
MT3 and MT4 tunnels remain under construction
Officials said MT3 is 80% completed while MT4 is 60% completed. Work on MT1 and MT2 is currently in progress.
Project team marks latest tunnel breakthrough milestone
The MT-07 breakthrough leaves four of the project’s eight mountain tunnels awaiting completion under the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project.
