Mrinal Tai Gore flyover extension set to open on June 6
The long-awaited extension of the Mrinal Tai Gore Flyover is scheduled to be inaugurated on the morning of June 6. The project aims to ease traffic congestion in Goregaon. The completed flyover will provide improved connectivity between key areas in the western suburbs.
750-metre flyover to connect Ram Mandir and Goregaon
The newly completed 750-metre flyover will offer a direct four-lane link between Ram Mandir and Goregaon. The infrastructure is expected to streamline vehicular movement across the corridor. Commuters are likely to benefit from smoother and faster travel.
Approach arms complete nearly a decade after main span opened
While the main span of the Mrinal Tai Gore Railway Flyover was opened to traffic in 2016, work on the two approach arms continued. Each arm measures approximately 390 metres in length. Their completion marks the final phase of the project.
Project includes pedestrian and safety infrastructure
Apart from the flyover construction, the project involved the development of pedestrian amenities and safety-related features. Painting works, noise barriers and other supporting infrastructure were also completed. These additions form part of the overall improvement plan.
Flyover expected to ease congestion in Goregaon
The completed extension is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in Goregaon. Authorities believe the project will help reduce congestion along the busy corridor. The opening is anticipated to bring relief to daily commuters.
Project cost rises from ₹209 crore to ₹248 crore
Initially estimated at ₹209 crore, the project was completed at a cost of around ₹248 crore. The increase followed multiple revisions during the construction period. Additional works and technical requirements contributed to the final expenditure.
Construction timeline hit by pandemic and technical hurdles
The extension project received administrative approval in 2018 and construction began on March 22, 2019. Originally scheduled for completion within 24 months, the work faced several setbacks. Delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and technical challenges extended the timeline.
Residents welcome opening after completion of works
Local residents have expressed support for the flyover being opened at the earliest. They said the construction and related works have already been completed. The inauguration will finally make the long-pending infrastructure project fully operational.
