Mhada identifies 82 dangerous buildings in annual pre-monsoon survey
MUMBAI: Mhada's annual pre-monsoon survey of old and dilapidated cessed buildings in the island city has identified 82 buildings as highly dangerous. These include 43 structures from the previous year's list.
Mhada's Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board identified these buildings across Bomanji Lane, Bora Bazaar, Samuel Street, Sheikh Memon Road, Kalbadevi, JSS Road, VP Road, Mama Parmanand Marg.and other locations in Girgaum, Khetwadi, Mazgaon, Kalachowkie, Nagpada-Byculla and Dadar-Shivaji Park.
A total of 2,736 people live in them, of which 2,256 are residential and 480 non-residential occupants. Mhada issued notices to 176 residents to vacate following which 29 relocated to transit camps, while 36 made alternative arrangements. Eviction notices were issued to the rest and the process of vacating the premises is underway.
The board has urged these inhabitants to vacate and installed a 24/7 control room in Tardeo (022-2353 6945 / 93216-37699) to receive distress calls.
