MUMBAI: Three men have been arrested three days after they robbed a businessman of Rs 5 lakh in Andheri west. The victim, Ashish Modi (60), had pinned down one of his assailants, Bunty Dhulgaj (45), on the spot, the DN Nagar police said. Four armed men, who had robbed a businessman of Rs 5 lakh in cash at Andheri West, have been arrested by the DN Nagar police. The businessman, Ashish Modi, 60, had helped catch one of the robbers on the spot, officials said. The accused then led the cops to the rest of his accomplices.Modi withdrew cash from a private bank at Juhu Gully for his business purposes on Saturday. The four accused accosted him while he was headed to Andheri station. Dhulgaj pushed Modi and an accomplice snatched his bag containing the cash. "Modi raised an alarm and locals gathered. They managed to overpower Dhulgaj and thrashed him," said a police officer.Cops on patrol hauled Dhulgaj to the police station. "He spilled the beans about his accomplices and we picked them up by Monday. We have recovered Rs 4.5 lakh," said an official.The accused have been identified as Rajesh Kahar, Manoj Vishwakarma, and Mohammed Shafi Shaikh alias Sikanadar.
The four have a criminal record. was walking out of the bank when the gang of robbers noticed him. The quartet had been hanging around outside the bank for awhile, keeping an eye on customers. Around 11.30 am, Modi began to head towards the Andheri railway station when one of the robbers, Bunty Dhulgaj, 45, accosted him and pushed him to the ground. Dhulgaj was accompanied by Rajesh Kahar, Manoj Vishwakarma, and Mohammed Shafi Shaikh alias Sikanadar, all in their late thirties.After Modi collapsed on the ground, the quartet grabbed his bag full of money and started to flee. "Modi could not get a good look at the robbers as everything happened in a matter of seconds. He somehow managed to get a grip on Dhulgaj and hold on tight," said a police official. As Modi raised an alarm, local gathered at the spot and overpowered Dhulgaj. They also thrashed him.Patrolling police personnel noticed the crowd and made inquiries. They learnt about Dhulgaj's involvement in the robbery and hauled him to the DN Nagar police station. "After Dhulgaj spilt the beans on his aides, we rounded them up late on Monday. We have recovered Rs 4.5 lakh in cash. All the accused have past criminal cases registered against them," said the official.
