49 dead in Barge P305 tragedy

So far, the mortal remains of 49 persons on board Barge P305 have been recovered while 26 crew members are still missing. The barge P305 went adrift in Cyclone Tauktae's fury before it sank in the Arabian Sea on Monday. Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard, battling extreme weather, rescued 188 of the 261 people who were on board the barge P305 and two personnel from the tugboat Varaprada.

Congress demands Petroleum Minister's resignation

Demanding Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said that the Barge P305 incident was a man-made tragedy when the warning was given. "News of the sinking of #ONGC barge P-305 resulting in the death of 37 workers is devastating. More than 38 people are still missing. This is clearly a man-made tragedy as warnings of imminent #TauktaeCyclone had been given in advance. @dpradhanbjp must resign, taking moral responsibility," he tweeted.

Congress attacks Modi govt

Further, demanding that the action must be taken against all those responsible for endangering the lives of workers, Sawant said, "Modi govt's reckless approach in handling corona already caused deaths of lakhs of people. and it is continuing to exhibit the same. When will the Modi govt learn lessons from their grave mistakes?"

Mumbai Police to conduct a probe

Mumbai police have announced they will conduct a probe as to why the ill-fated barge remained in the turbulent area despite warnings about cyclone Tauktae. They registered an accidental death report (ADR) on Wednesday in connection with the death of the personnel on the barge. The Navy also launched a fresh aerial search and rescue mission today morning, deploying helicopters to scour the waters off the Mumbai coast.

Bodies yet to be identified

Several bodies recovered from the Barge P305 tragedy are yet to be identified. Friends, family members and relatives gathered outside the JJ mortuary for the identification of such bodies.

Vaccine politics in Mumbai

The Mumbai Unit of Congress party purportedly put up big banners at several places in the city asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi why he had exported anti-coronavirus vaccines to other nations which were meant for the children of the country. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers removed the banner and raised slogans such as 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai.' "They are insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, misleading people and we condemn this," said a BJP leader.

New vaccine centre in Kandivali

Mumbai got its first drive-in vaccination facility within mall premises in Kandivali East on Thursday, as Mayor Kishori Pednekar inaugurated the centre at the Growel's 101 Mall. Civic officials said that senior citizens above the age of 60 years would be vaccinated for Covishield at an open parking lot of the mall.
