Jindal Steel and Venezuela 'tie up' for iron ore plant
Venezuela has signed an agreement with Jindal Steel & Power, allowing the Indian company to operate its largest iron-ore plant, CVG Ferrominera Orinoco. This marks the first entry by an international firm into Venezuela's closely held companies in years. The details of the deal, which was signed on Friday, have not been made public. The agreement is seen as a step towards opening up Venezuela's metallurgic and mining industries to international private companies, following US sanctions in 2019. The plant has been operating below capacity due to mismanagement, lack of investment, and a power crisis.
