BPCL tie up with India Olympic Association to support Indian athletes from humble background
MUMBAI: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has entered into a four-year partnership with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), commencing from the Paris Olympics in 2024 and extending until the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. The announcement was made on Monday.
An official stated, "This four-year partnership supports and salutes the sheer grit and determination of Indian athletes, many of whom come from humble backgrounds and remote corners of India." The collaboration will involve BPCL launching a series of campaigns aimed at supporting and uplifting the Indian contingent as they prepare for the Paris Olympics. These initiatives are designed to inspire the nation, rally support for the athletes, and celebrate their unwavering pursuit of excellence on the international stage.
Union petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri said Olympics was the pinnacle of human achievement. “It is a matter of pride for us that 12 athletes sponsored by Indian Oil are participating in the Olympics this time. Another 5 are supported by ONGC”, Puri said, adding : “BPCL alone has supported more than 250 players. I am proud that BPCL’s partnership with the Indian Olympics Association will now be further deepened.”
G. Krishnakumar, the chairman and managing director of BPCL, emphasized the company's long-standing commitment to nurturing and supporting the country's sporting talent from their early years throughout their careers. He stated, "Consistent with BPCL's philosophy of nurturing and encouraging our country's sporting talent from their initial years and through their sporting careers, we have, over the years, taken on board over 200 sportspersons across various disciplines. Our support serves to provide confidence to the sportspersons, acting as a springboard for their aspirations."
