300 MBBS seats still vacant for 4th round

Mumbai: Almost 300 MBBS seats are up for grabs in government and private colleges in the state for the fourth and final round in the state. A majority of these are in private colleges, but government colleges too have over 30 seats. Some of the private colleges with higher fees have more vacant seats after three rounds of counselling conducted by the state's CET cell. Among government colleges only the ones at Solapur and Sindhudurg have four and three vacant seats respectively. Most others have one or two seats vacant for the final round. The state's CET cell closed the registration process and choice filling for the final stray vacancy round on Friday. Candidates without seats were eligible for admission in this round. Of the 3,170 MBBS seats in private colleges, 261 were vacant for the stray round. Among private colleges, Palghar's Vedantaa Institute of Medical Sciences has the highest number of vacant seats. Of the 150 seats in the college, 106 were vacant after three rounds of admission. The college, set up under the Companies Act, also charges the highest fees among private colleges in the state - over Rs 16 lakh per annum. In government dental colleges, 52 seats are vacant. Of the 2,400 seats in private dental colleges, 566 were vacant after three rounds.

1,640 MBBS seats still vacant; colleges seek cut in cut-off

Over 1,600 MBBS seats, including 483 in Tamil Nadu, remain vacant after three rounds of counselling by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). While some seats are All-India Quota (AIQ), others are in state-run colleges. Private institutions are lobbying for lower cut-off marks, and states like Tamil Nadu are requesting the return of seats or an extension of the admission deadline. The issue is attributed to factors such as free exits for students and an unsynchronized counselling process. Deemed universities are offering scholarships to attract students.

13k PG medical seats vacant after 2 rounds of counselling

Nearly 13,000 postgraduate seats in medical colleges across India are currently vacant after two rounds of counselling, according to sources from the health ministry. The ministry has justified the need to reduce the qualifying percentile to zero in order to fill these seats. In total, there are 68,142 PG medical seats in the country. Last year, the qualifying percentile was reduced to 20 in order to fill vacant seats. The move to allow all medical graduates who appeared for the NEET-PG exams to participate in counselling is aimed at increasing the number of applicants.

1,904 seats still vacant in UG medical, dental

The Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC) in Ahmedabad has announced that there are 1,904 vacant seats in the ongoing third round of admissions. Students participating in this round must pay their tuition fees by September 21 and verify their documents by September 22. As of now, 7,740 students have been allocated seats, with 5,836 confirming their admissions. Additionally, there are 600 vacant seats in postgraduate medical courses, and 15,808 vacant seats in paramedical courses. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved IP University's decision to admit law students based on aggregate scores in three subjects.
