NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh power department has fined former district president of the Samajwadi Party, Firoz Khan, Rs 54 lakh for electricity theft.
The penalty follows an inspection conducted on October 20 in Pakka Bagh, Hayatnagar, where it was discovered that Khan's private office had no installed electricity meter since 2012 and no valid electricity connection, according to Executive Engineer Naveen Gautam.
An FIR against Khan was filed under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003, at the Anti-Power Theft Police Station. Gautam stated, "After approval of the inspection report, a penalty of Rs 54 lakh has been imposed."
Khan has 15 days to present his case. He claimed, "I have a generator, which is the source of electricity," and said the case was politically motivated.
